Time to think of others

Often enough, when my mind is occupied by all the daily chores and problems I have, I forget that there are people out there with real problems and they are struggling something bigger than life.
My heart goes out today to everyone - everywhere - who is facing something beyond my wildest dreams.
My thoughts are with my mother in law who just lost her husband, my spouse who just lost her dad, and my parents who are facing an incomprehensible challenge. Then there are people in Japan, in Libya, at the Estonian Orphanage, in Egypt, in Zimbabwe, and all the others I forget when I think too much about myself.
My mom once said to me "The devil doesn't care if you think too much of yourself or too little of yourself, as long as you think about yourself."

I had much the same reaction when I was taking in all the news from this planet these last few days. There was NO way I was going to moan on about some silly little thing in my life like the computer running too slow or the fact that my hours at work look likely to be cut--those are not problems at all compared to what others are dealing with right now.
Found your blog, BTW, by way of Thursday 13. :-)

Serving others, people you love or otherwise, has been as life-saver for me. Being needed is life affirming. Giving freely, no resentment or expectations, seems almost impossible with loved ones. I suppose that's why serving strangers is such a beneficial activity. It probably makes you more grateful for time serving family and friends?

I love your blog. Thank you for sharing the down to earth, ordinary life of a family with two moms.
